Making day....

Hi there!
How's your day been going?

I have had  a bit of a creative day, making more layers for some tree decorations, I am hoping to maybe finish these ones by the end of the weekend.

I have been inspired to get cracking on these because my order of cute pompom trims arrived the other day, so I have lots of new colours to play with!

There is nothing like a heap of new haberdashery supplies to get my crafty enthusiasm going, I tend to go a bit overboard with the ribbons and trims!

I am really happy with this lot of colours and how they are looking all together, Just what I had in mind! Don't you love it when you head vision works out in real life! :)

My table was a lovely colourful mess, I did enjoy myself!

I will have to try and tidy up a bit before I start tomorrow,
but I am sure it will end up looking very similar.

I had an extra crafty day really, as I also blocked all the squares that I have finished for the 'Wheels within Wheels' blanket.  Oh my, they look so much better!  Show you tomorrow!

(I bought my pom pom trims from Craft Queen, I found the service Nicole provided was excellent, and her range of different craft supplies awesome!!  She has a massive ribbon section too, so many lovely things! And 10 pages of washi tapes!!!  It is definitely worth a browse if you are into this type of thing!)

Anyhow, I think that's all for today, I'm going back to hook some new wheels!

Bye!

My crafty space sorted.....

Hello .......... what's news around here.........
I have given my bit of the study a make over of sorts. Still school holidays, and the boys seem happy to hang around at home , so I have been trying to organise my wool storage and give me somewhere to do crafty stuff that doesn't end up spreading through the whole house.

We took a trip to Ikea on Sunday to get these square boxy shelves. It pays to be prepared when you shop at Ikea, the place is enormous and like a great shopping conveyor belt, everyone moves in the same direction, and it is like swimming up stream if you want to back track and check something out.
Note to self: don't go to Ikea on a weekend ever again thinking you can just quickly pop in and grab what you want and be on the road again in 20 minutes. It ain't gonna happen. Best leave 4.5hrs for the round trip, (3hrs driving, and 1.5 to get the stuff) , and be ready to go, go, go!!! It is not a place to browse in peace, be ready to contend with 50 million other people not really sure what they are looking for, and then all trying to check out at the same time. It is an amazing shopping experience.

So anyhoo, we bought these new shelves and I am soooo happy with my new organised things, all the colourful wool sitting nice and neat in their little squares. Moved the table around to a new position, tidied up my wool scraps, gave it a bit of a dust and vac, added my blue chair and had fun rearranging stuff, and there you go, one new improved crafty space!

Think I'll have a little sit in the blue chair with a nice drink and do a bit of hooky, I've got a few ideas swirling around trying to get out, and it is great to have a nice tidy space to use!

Before I go, I just wanted to say hello to anyone who is new to my blog. I seem to have gained quite a few followers recently, so welcome, it's nice to have you visit!! I'll be trying my best to check out all your blogs too when I get some free time on the computer. (Not that easy here, as the middle son has introduced the youngest to the wonderful World of Warcraft. 2 gaming nuts in the house now. What joy.)

So thanks for popping over and I'll see you soon!

My Creative Space....wonky slippers.....

Sooo...these are my wonky slippers that I made the other day.

I found the pattern recently over at Pips Meet me at Mikes, she is such a clever generous girl, thank you!! so I decided to make a pair as it is really getting cold here now.

It was a great tutorial, easy to follow and I was really pleased with my first ever slipper! I made the second one and somehow came out with a much bigger slipper, I don't think I increased to enough stitches in the first one, but anyhoo, I'm happy with the wonk element and as they are just for me it doesn't really matter.

They are super cosy and I notice as soon as I put them on how warm my feet feel, which is just as well as our tiled floors are freezing!!!
I used a thick 20 ply that I picked up in the back room at Bendigo Woolen Mills, nice and heavy duty for our hard floors, and extra warm.

Had requests from the youngest for a pair for him, so might give it another go and see if I can make 2 the same this time!

Hope you are having a great creative day, have a look at other creative spaces over here.

New things in the workspace....

soooo.... I have been a bit slack on the blogging thing recently, life has been busy and there is so much devastation around with natural disasters in Japan and New Zealand that I haven't been in a terribly creative mood......but I have got back into it today.

We went down to Geelong to visit Gary's dad for the long weekend, which was fun and a nice break, I took my knitting and got a fair bit of a scarf done, till I reached a bit with limey green and hadn't bought the colour with me, doh!

I thought I'd show you my supposed work space, which I have recently tried to spruce up a bit, to encourage me to sit there and be creative!
It looks a bit of a mess, but this is actually pretty tidy for me.

In the photo above, you can see my 'inspiration board' with a few pretty pictures pinned on it. I went through a little phase of buying gorgeous inspiring cards with images that I like, the only problem is I keep having to use them for emergency gifts that I forget to buy cards for!

Now I come to the things that prompted this post - my new green and red storage baskets!
Aren't they lovely? I treated myself when I checked out the Geelong Spotlight, I really like them, and they are practical too!

.....and from another view...

Wanna see what's in them?

....perfect for crochet cotton (14 balls in there), and some lovely multi coloured wool that I couldn't resist, also from Geelong Spotlight. (they had a lot of different stuff to the one close to me).
I think a couple of bright, crazy stripey scarves would look great in this stuff.

I have a couple of new ideas floating around the old head, and just need to knuckle down and give them a go, I think I am worried they won't turn out like I am visioning, so am putting off trying. How stupid, just do it woman!! More on these at a later date!

Oh, something else, I am thinking of starting a knitting/crochet group locally, so if anyone lives on the Western Port side of the Mornington Peninsula and would like to get together, stay tuned! or give me an email. Maybe a Brown Owl Group ?

Ok that's about all for now , I am going to try and post more often I promise, but my life is pretty boring, so you have been warned!! Haha...

Have a great day!

my creative space #6....

We have been having quite a creative school holidays so far, with a girl in the house who likes to make things we have been making some felt softies. This is Lily's bunny, she is very pleased with herself! I think she has done a great job with only a little help from me.
I also started teaching Lily how to crochet, she has mastered chaining and made a nice little necklace with a flower pendant hanging from it. Next time she is staying we might try some other stitches.

All this creativity has been rubbing off on my boys, Andre was inspired to make a fish. He decided he wanted to do it on the sewing machine, I attempted to teach him how to use it, he had a few issues with my Elna, I ended up doing most of the sewing , so I guess it's a bit of a collaboration. He still said it was 'Awesome', high praise from my son! I am still impressed he stayed interested enough to finish the project, and now he wants to make more and sell them on etsy! The little entrepreneur! ( Although I think he might need a bit more time with Elna before we get to that stage!!)

Not bad for a first attempt!

I have nearly finished my colourful crochet rug, it is all joined together (a process I enjoyed a lot more than I thought I would), and I am just doing a little edge a few dc rows to finish it off. I was going to try a nice scalloped edge, but decided to go with the simple rows as Max has put his name on it and I don't want it to be too girly, also the colours are pretty in your face so it probably doesn't need too much more fuss. Hope to finish it off over the weekend and have a
"TA DA" post next week with photos! YaY!

Have a great day!

my creative space

This is my super chunky scarf that I finished today! It kind of reminds me of a gushing waterfall of colours. It is made from some lovely Colinette chunky yarn and was wonderful to knit. I thought the different thicknesses in the wool might be a pain to work, but I didn't find it a problem, and I think the different weights of the yarn made the pattern more interesting. There is a lovely range of colours in this wool and I am really pleased with it - plus it is sooooo warm! The pattern is a rib variation with a ruffle edge, I found it on the internet somewhere ages ago, and I really like how it works up. (Haven't quite got around to figuring out how to add links to blogs - what a newb, but when i do I'll try and find it again and link to it)
Thought i would try and add this to the My creative space Thursday thing I came across on Kootoyoo. (figured out the linking thing I think! Yah!)

See how long and warm it looks and how the colours are slightly different on each end? (Thanks to Max for being a super model boy,I know it's not really cool modelling mum's hippy knitting but he did a great job and managed to smile for me!)

Lovely thick/thin multicolour wooly ribby goodness!

And just to finish off - finally a break in the rainy weather and my little niece Bianca and I did some flower picking and came up with this posy to take home for her mum (my sis). Such beautiful poppies, the colour is so vibrant and cheery, has to make you smile! Bea was pretty pleased with herself too!

Have a great happy day!
