Mini Heart Bunting - Crochet Fun!

Hi there, my crochet friends! 

I hope all has been good in your creative endeavours, I have been busy hooking up a storm recently, even though the blog silence may suggest otherwise! 

Today I thought I'd share with you something I have been crocheting for fun - these little tapestry crochet heart flags.  I seem to love the heart motif and have used it in many of my makes over the years, and I am quite pleased with these little bunting flags! 

They are not very big (only 11 stitches wide) so seem to hook up in no time.

If you are not familiar with Tapestry Crochet, there is a tutorial post I made a few years ago about how to do the basics that should show you how to change colours and crochet over  the second colour to hide it inside the row.  it is over here if you need a refresher.

I have written up a little pattern so you can have a go at making some of these if they tickle your fancy.  I have used 4ply wool and a 2.5mm hook for mine,  but you could do them in 8ply and use a 3mm or 3.5mm hook.  They are great stash busting makes, only needing a small amount of wool for each flag.

little snippets and a winner!

1. Bunting, bunting everywhere!   I really should hang this happy pile of colour around my shop.

2. + 3.  I have been working with lovely pastel colours this week making a few extra washers for the market on Saturday, and also making another heart bunting with a slightly stronger colour palette, very enjoyable work! :)   I don't think I've posted anything on here about the new Vinnis Colour Nikkim cotton that has come into the shop recently, it is so beautiful with so many gorgeous soft shades (the pastel colours I have been using in the heart washers).  I must do a post about it soon. 

(That's the problem with using multiple social medias, I can never remember what I've posted where! I have been using Instagram quite a bit recently, and when I put something up there often I feel like it has been dealt with and forget to share on the blog!! Poor neglected blog! :)   )

4. + 5.  Frank came to visit me in the Studio yesterday and found it a very interesting place!  I don't let the cats in here very often, so they are full of curiosity when they are allowed in. :) 

6.  Spring is in full swing around here at the moment, the garden is so beautiful and wild and full of flowers and blossom, the poppies are one of my favs and are putting on a great show!  Lovely long stems too.

Hello! 

 I hope you are having a fabulous week!

Before I pop off to bed I thought I'd show you a little thing I made last week, some heart bunting.  

I have been a bit fixated on hearts recently, and these cute little flags are an idea I had for some left over cotton, not enough for a complete washer, but enough for a square!  I might put a little recipe together for these, they are fun to make and make a cheery addition to a wall I think! 

I'm planning to make some nice long strings for the studio, I ended up painting it all white, so there is lots of scope for colourful decorating! :) 

So what have you been making lately? 

Something big and long term, or a quick crafty fix?  

I am finding that I am making lots of smaller things, at the moment, like this bunting, due to another market in April, but then there is a break over winter, so I think I will be able to start some bigger projects, maybe a couple of blankets. I have seen a lovely motif that I want to try, isn't there always another idea to try!! :)

Granny bunting all finished!

Hellooo!

How are you all today, my crafty friends!

I am in count down to my market on Saturday, so I have been madly finishing off some crochet makes.  This is how the pile of granny squares that I showed you last week turned out, colourful, fluttering, bunting! 

A few of you have asked what bunting is, it is just little flaggy type things hanging off a string, I wonder if there are different names for it it other countries.  

These are my granny buntings, I think they are looking lovely and Spring-like in my flowering cherry amongst the blossom.  

How lucky am I that the trees are blossoming at the perfect time for this little photo sessions!:)

I am not even that worried if I don't sell any of this, I think I could just let it hang in the trees and make my garden a happy place.  It will be nice to hang it for birthdays and Christmas too, (who am I kidding, once I put these pretties up they won't be coming down for a while! :))

I am planning a very colourful, cheerful stall, I think these will fit the brief quite well.

I am very happy with how these turned out, simple, yet colourful and joyous, I plan to give them a little blocking to square them up a bit and then I have have to think how to package them, I don't think I will have space to hang them all over my stall, maybe 1 or 2, but I am thinking some cute way of packaging the others would be good.  I do have an idea in my head, I just hope I don't run out of time!

Granny bunting making......

Hello there!  How has your week been going?  Good I hope!  

Have you been making anything fun?

I have been busy making granny squares in lots of gorgeous colour combinations to make some granny buntings, well, my version of granny square bunting anyway.  I have been quite productive and speedy for me, I usually seem to take a long time to amass a nice pile of squares, but this week they have grown pretty fast! 

I stacked  them all together and then spent quite a lot of time admiring the way all the colours worked together in little slices and glimpses, something about this really pleased me and made me very happy!  So of course I had to take a heap of photos so I could remember it and look at it later whenever I need a little colour fix.  So that is why you are seeing all these pictures of stacked squares, it is all quite self indulgent really!

I think they look a bit like a fat colourful caterpillar.  I am thinking there are a few colour combos here that would look great as a skinny stripe blanket too!

Anyway, I am in a bit of a tizz getting things made for an exciting market that I am having a stall at on Saturday 18th October.  It is the first one for the season at Emu Plains Market, held about 5 minutes from here at the Balnarring Racecourse.  I love this market, it is set under the gum trees and has lots of stalls, I have been as a shopper last season, but this is my first market stall there with my Little Woollie Makes things! Eek!  I hope it goes ok! 

I am taking along a bit of a mini yarn stall too, just in case my stall looks empty with too few crochet makes, I will have yarn for sale as well.  Come and say hello if you are down this way, I'd love to meet you! (that was the best part of the last market, meeting some readers of this blog!)

I really enjoyed doing the Nanna Cool Market in Chelsea last month, the feedback was so encouraging and everybody was so nice, this one is much bigger so I hope I don't get too lost in the crowd!

Now I have to crochet all these squares into lines of bunting, I thought it would be a quick job, but I did one piece this afternoon (16 squares), and it took about 10 times longer than I had anticipated! 

So that is how I will be spending tomorrow I think, and hopefully I will have more pretty pictures of some finished bunting.  I know it's been around for a while, and probably done to death, but I still love a bit of bunting fluttering on a Spring day!

Okay, I had better go and get started on those buntings, I might be able to cross a couple off my to do list tonight if I am good!

the one where we throw a party.....

Hello there!

 I have been absent from my blog and the computer in general this past week, and it feels like ages since I last posted, it has been a busy time at our place!

I am turning 40 this week, so we thought we would have a party (you know, any excuse... :) ). 

This did entail a major house clean/declutter/garden makeover, etc, which turned into a huge task!

(Our house is usually quite untidy and messy and I tend to only get it in tip top condition for special occasions) 

 Luckily my fab parents and husband gave me lots of help to get things looking celebratory, and my family and friends came over last night and we had a great night!

Lots of chatting and catching up, eating and drinking, playing pool and some good music, and general funtimes!

............We hung some of these paper ball thingys..... think they will be up till after Christmas and continue with the party atmosphere.....

.........I made some big paper flowers for a colourful party garland..........

........we cracked out the special cups........ and filled them with some yummy drinks.....

.......colourful bendy straws to suck up a margarita or two...........

......received some lovely flowers....

.....and picked these guys from the garden......

As part of the 'make the house presentable' operation, my dad put my painted papered box on the wall for me and I got a few of my crochet jars into it......

.....and  found my ceramic bottles looked right at home on top.....

The garden is looking a treat too, but I don't have any pictures to show you, maybe a garden post coming soon.

I have a great family and lovely friends and they all made me feel very spoilt and lucky and loved, so it was an excellent way to say goodbye to my 30's and look forward to the next decade of living.

(Although not officially till this week)

Oh, and I got my hair cut again during the week and have gone shocking blonde, so much so that every time I catch my reflection, I get a little surprised shock, I look quite different! 

I haven't had much crafting time recently, and I've missed it!!  I have managed to start a little idea for something Christmassy.  Now that the big do is history, I can get back to other fun things and hopefully have a few finished things to share soon!

My Creative Space...flag bunting/ flapping beach houses

Finished off the blue green flag bunting that does look a lot like upside down beach houses.
Tried to get creative with taking the photos, and failed miserably, hanging things are so hard to photograph well! So gave up, and you now have these pretty pathetic photos to show you the loveliness of this bunting! ( I am still not over bunting and garlandy things!)

More things to dangle....

Hello, how has your day been?

I have had a nice day with my little niece, crafting and visiting the Community garden and doing a bit of shopping.....

...and this is what I have been finishing off today. These little flags are for a lovely bunting, another hanging thing, I seem to be drawn to them! I have limited the colour palette for this one, trying to be a bit more boyish with the blues and greens, but I still think it looks nice and fresh and appealing. They look a bit more washed out in the photos than in real life.


I have stitched all the circles onto the plain flags and I think it has come up quite well.
I have crocheted a rope to join them all together, and they are all finished!
Should have a ta da picture tomorrow.

Finished knitted bunting....

Sooooooo...... I finished a project last night and here it is - my knitted bunting! I am really happy with it and it makes me feel happy just looking at it floating across the corner of the family room. I need lots more of these!! I am really into the whole gypsy/carnival feel and these fit the bill perfectly! I think they would also look gorgeous in a babies nursery strung across a window or something.


The triangle bunting behind the new one was made earlier this year, but it is knitted in 100% wool and doesn't hang quite as well as the new cotton one.


Gee, hanging things are hard to photograph!

my creative space #15.............

......nearly finished my knitted bunting, sewn the flowers on, now just doing long long chains and slip stitching a cord to join them all together. Not much more to go! Yay!

Knitted bunting progress......

I've been working on this knitted bunting this week. I think it will be a nice addition to my little Madeit shop. (when I open it!). Or maybe a Chrissy present for someone. Not sure.
I am currently knitting the triangle ends onto the rectangles, I like mixing the colours and putting the combos together.


I think I might add some flower decos to a few of the plain flags. There are lots of possibilities here, I could try some with hearts or circles or anything really!

Hoping to have it finished by the weekend, so I'll show you how it turned out then!
