Friday new things....

Hi there.
What's been happening today?
Not much here.  Just a normal old Friday that seems to have come around extra quick this week.
I went down to my parents place today and had a nice lunch and pottered in the garden a bit, we visited a strawberry farm in Red Hill only to find it doesn't open for the season till next week. Doh.
Andre is still home recovering from his op, (think - lots of computer time) I think he is looking very well and is definitely ready for school next week.

We have a kind of long weekend here, with the Melbourne Cup running on Tuesday and a public holiday, so lots of people take Monday off as well. Technically the boys have school, but lots of kids are away so not much is done as far as school work goes.  I think my boys want to go to school, so it will just be a normal day for us.  Still feels like a holiday though.

I'm going to spend the weekend trying to restore some order in a few rooms here, cleaning and tidying a big mess.  And I should be able to fit in some crafting and cooking and gardening if I try hard!

Thought I would show you a couple of things I started yesterday (got a bit tired of the flower motif, so mixing it up a bit).  The little shape at the top is my first attempt at a heart, I think with a few modifications it will be right for some cute Chrissy decorations.

Also started another cushion in the Bendigo cottons, felt like doing some rows, and something small was just the thing.  Maybe another thing for Christmas?

Had a quick look in the Oppy on my way home and found these nice aqua, blue and lime check blankets. There were 2 single bed size, and a bit of a bargain, so I had to grab them.

I did think of Claire over at Sweet Birdy Love and her lovely upcycled blanket toys when I saw them!  I have a few ideas for these, involving the sewing machine.
Not sure if they are wool or acrylic, does anyone know how to tell the difference?
Anyway, I'm sure they can be used for something fun, such nice colours!

OK better go and do something!
Have a great day!

weekending....and something new-ish....

Hello!
How is your weekend going? Mine is going great so far!

But first up I'd like to thank you all for the lovely comments I received on my last post about my blanket progress. So much encouragement! You are all so gorgeous, thank you for taking the time to comment, I love reading them (who wouldn't when you are all so nice!). There were a few questions about the blanket and types of yarns etc, so next time I post an update I will try to include more technical info for you all.

But anyhoo, I went for a fossick the other day at The Vintage Shed in Tyabb, and I have to show you what I found! (This place is fantastic if you are into mooching around all things old and wonderful, lots of clothes, furniture, household stuff, just about anything and everything, if you are in Melbourne and like op shopping, it is well worth a visit, it is only 5 minutes from here, lucky me!)

Yep, this special little 1960's retro table and the gorgeous vinyl chairs that match. I am very happy with this purchase.!! In excellent condition, it is just what I have been looking for to go next to our sunny window........

.....the perfect spot to catch some late afternoon rays and lose yourself in Harry Potter.....
This used to be where I had my 2 sleepy hollow chairs, but I like a bit of change, so now it is my pretend-I'm-sitting-in-a-funky-cafe spot, still great for crocheting, but now a good spot for breakfast and lunch too! Happy, happy, happy!!!!

........It's a pretty dreary day here weatherwise, so the mowing plans have been shelved, and I think I might get a bit of day time hooky action in, which is always nice! The boys are all happily occupied, so it might just have to happen!

Have a great weekend everyone........talk soon!

Remember this.... something has actually been finished!!

Hi there!!

Oops, over a week since the last post, where did that week go! Holidays seem to run at triple speed compared to 'normal' time in this house, the days are eaten up at break neck pace and before you know it a week has gone, it's Good Friday, and I haven't even sat at the computer!

Anyhoo, I do have something pretty awesome (I think) to share with you today......
remember I picked this little grubby cabinet up at a market ages ago, and it has been sitting on our front porch for many months waiting patiently for me to get my act into gear and 'fix it up'...... well I am pleased to report that the little cabinet has been given the special treatment and has finally taken up residence at our house !!! Yay!!

So what follows is a pictorial feast of colour and one extra special little cabinet, I hope you get as much enjoyment from the experience as I did from arranging my stuff on her!!
(probably not possible, as I realllyyy got a kick out of this little piece of furniture, bit sad I know!)

Placed in her new home, (already looking good even empty), you likey the paper backed shelves?....

.....did a nice little colour change inside the cupboard, and got to pick a different paper for in there.......

....filling up....

....filling up.....(the crochet jars have found their perfect place I think)...

....and full....!!!!

My collection of kitcheny things looking very spiffy.......

...gotta love the spots and stripes......

....you can see the paper a bit better here...

I love the cool fifties vibe of this sweet heart!!! And being able to see all my nice stuff any time I glance that way, makes me feel happy and satisfied with myself (pathetic I know!)

......lovely splayed legs.....

.....and here she is, right at home in my sunny room with the shadow box above, all looking colourful and making me extra extra happy!!!

Thanks for indulging me and my new/old cabinet, it is amazing what a bit of paint and time can do!...and sorry for the photo over load, I couldn't choose which ones to show you so put them all on!

We have been doing other things this week as well, but I have to admit finishing this project and seeing her in our house has been the icing on the holiday cake!!

I have been making progress on the crochet owls (show you next time), and been hanging out with the boys, driving them to their mates places and to work, (yes, Jesse my15 year old has a part time job that he is enjoying, so he is out in the big wide world earning for himself, good on him!!).

Hope you all have a great Easter break and have a chocolate feast!

Flea market finds.....at my house..

Blogtober 4th

I found this great little cabinet and folding sides table at our local market on the weekend - very happy! Going to give them a super dooper paint job and transform them! I love the splayed legs and retro round corners on my funky cabinet, and I think the table will be very handy for big family gatherings, heaps better than an old card table.! Not sure yet if I'll paint it or restain it. Stay tuned for the big makeover photos!

Just thought I'd give you a quick look at how the tablecloth is progressing - quite slowly but steadily. The colours look good in this shot, I think it is going to be pretty when it's done.
I am joining as I go, which is different to the pattern but I think it will be easier in the long run.

Hoping tomorrow to show you a big ta da - I am nearly finished another crochet blankie, looking forward to showing you all!

Have a great day!
