Fine yarn

Hello. How are you all?
I don't seem to have had a lot of write about lately, or maybe it's just a bit of a blog break, I 'm hoping I'll be a bit more inspired ( and inspiring!) through August ( another month gone already!!) I need to get back in the swing of regular blogging, I think I will try for once a day posting even if it just something visual.  This year is really moving, I feel like I am getting a bit left behind, with my plans never getting the attention they need!  Maybe the answer is not to make plans!

Anyhoo,  The other day I went to the Stitches and Craft show in Melbourne with a couple of my friends.  There were a lot of women there!!
I came home with this lovely yarn from Dairing.  It is a cotton/ stainless steel mix so when you knit it up it is a fabric that you can shape and manipulate, pretty amazing!
I bought 3 spools, a lovely mushroom pink, a pale green and a grey, I am thinking I could make some interesting crocheted jewellery with this stuff.  It is really thin yarn!!
I also bought 2 spools of a fine cotton in a denimy blue and a straw yellow, I don't know what I'm going to make with these.

And I bought a scarf kit in a nice metallic blue that had a thread of the stainless steel mixed with a thread of cotton all ready to knit into a scarf.  Apparently this is a good way to see if you like using this unusual yarn, as it is quite fiddley to knit with.  This is my beginnings, it is very fine work and easy to get the wrong thread, and it is slippery and kept sliding off my needles, so patience are needed!  This could be a very slow project!

So there are my new buys, ( bought on a bit of a whim, I admit), I don't usually use such fine yarns, anyone got any ideas for what I could make with them?  Has anyone used this yarn before?
Got any tips?

..........on anther note, our kitten likes to spend time contemplating the great outdoors, he is still a bit scared of the actual outside, but I think he is building up his courage.

Have a great day!

  8. It will be interesting to see what you come up with Julie, using this new yarn. Not sure if I'd like the feel of the wire though. I find the natural fibres so enjoyable to use . It almost feels like a form of meditation when I don't need to concentrate too much.

  11. my LYS recommends wooden or bamboo needles with these silky slippery yarns.

I don't knit, but i do hang with a group that does.

  12. Definitely jewellery. I have a little tutorial on my blog which might get you started. It is a simple necklace and bracelet but you would get a feel for the yarn and its properties before you pick your dream project. Good Luck Jo x

I've also got some really thing yarn, mohair, and I've got no idea what to do with it! I was going to look it up on Ravelry for patterns which might be a good idea :)

  14. Hello, I have never used this yarn at all, It will be interesting to see what you do with it. I have just started a blog and I am trying to get into the swing of it. It can be quite daunting to think anyone might drop by and read what you've put.

I am enjoying your blog and I love the picture of your contemplating cat.

  16. Hello! I've just found your blog, it is very lovely. I've never seen this yarn before, but perhaps you could use it with a strand of cotton and shape it into a bowl? I like the suggestion of jewelery too. Wooden needles would definitely help with the slippiness of it.

  17. Hi, I am a bit of a yarn addict and picked up a number of spools of fine yarnfrom a local charity shop with no idea for its use. I ended up getting carried away making a hyperbolic crochet coral, it is addictive and you just keep going until you can't feel your fingers from holding the hook for too long lol, I've made little ones as a ring and larger one to go on handbags or as a corsage and using different coloured yarn as a final double crochet (uk) in every stitch to highlight the edge.
. Love the colours Jules xx
