April Garden Update...

Hello.  How are things in you neck of the woods?
It is such a lovely time of year here at the moment, calm days and cool, mild days.  I was up at dawn the other day ( no idea why I was up so early, not my usual habit!), and happened to witness such a beautiful sunrise, a very pink sky! Gorgeous!  It was a great day too.

Another month has rolled around in the garden and we are picking tomatoes galore!  The plants are dying off but the fruit is ripening nicely.  I think I will make some sauce with some of these, there are too many to eat fresh.

I dug up a patch of potatoes that had died off, and filled a couple of buckets, they should keep us going for a while!

....so here's a picture of my little harvest on the weekend, it is definitely time to clear out all the summer stuff and get some wintery things in, all my garden beds need a big over haul.....

...I was curious to try one of these melons, they were very late to set fruit, but we ended up with half a dozen or so.  They are not huge, but one was smelling very fragrant and ripe, so I cut it open to have a taste, very delish!  Juicy, sweet flesh, considering we are in Melbourne I think they grew very well!
The variety was called French Charentais, and I would recommend them as a great cool climate melon.

.......and here is one bed I cleaned up and got some broccoli, cabbage, spring onions and lettuces on the go. There is still so much to do, I am feeling a little overwhelmed by all the jobs I need to do!  I always start each season feeling like I have plenty of time to get stuff done, I write long lists of things to do and feel on top of things, but as the weeks go by I can feel my window of opportunity shrinking!

Oh well, I have to remember gardening is supposed to be enjoyable!  I think I need to take a deep breath and just take one job at a time......

So, how is your garden growing?
Are you up to date with everything on your do to list?
Or do you have lots of jobs to tackle too?

I'm off to write yet another list of things to do so I don't forget something important!  Talk soon...

  9. It is just turning Spring here so I should have stuff in the ground but I don't. It looks like you did fantastic for your summer garden. We've had rain so can't get out much and now I'm painting inside. I agree with you about the lists and high hopes and feeling like I fall short each year but I just try to do one thing at a time (impossible, I know) but I try not to feel overwhelmed. Another problem is that I have so many interests! LOL! Lovely tomatoes and potatoes and ,melons! What I wouldn't give for one of those fresh tomatoes after all winter. Good job!

  12. I'd love you to share your lists, if you would. I love your garden posts as much as the knitting ones. We are not far from Geelong so have a similar climate to you. :)

  13. I love the idea of gardening but honestly, I'm not very good at it.
We are renting at the moment so just have some struggling pots which probably wish they were in our neighbours garden - her plants look amazing - as do yours!!!
