making.....

I have to say, I am still loving making washcloths!  Quickish, easy and colour filled, what's not to love I guess!  Kate over at Just Pootling has put together a lovely post in honour of the humble washcloth, There are lots of lovely examples out there in blogland, I think I will be giving everyone I know a little bundle of washers this Christmas!   I am enjoying the combo of red, pink and white in this one, I am going to use the softer pink as a border, what do you think?

And in other exciting (!) news I have  finally finished putting my little crochet star kits together.  It took me longer than I had thought, I couldn't decide how to package them, and then I started having doubts about the whole thing, so they just sat there for a few days.  But I have decided to just put them out there and see what happens.

I ended up wrapping them in brown paper ( you know, a few of my favourite things and all that..) and adding a couple of washi tape stripes for a bit of colour.
Nice and simple and low tech, but still a bit pretty.
I have made up two different colour combos to start with, one a Christmas Star, and the other I call a Sunny Star, in some of my fav colours, a combo I seem to use a fair bit!  I have a few other combos to try, but I will see how these two go first.

If you'd like to have a look at them I have put them into my shop today, ready to go!
I'd love to hear what you think of them and any improvements you could suggest. :)

What have you been making today?
I'm joining in with Christina for Made by Hand today too.

  2. Love your packages! The dishcloth is very nice too! It was made using tunesian crochet right? I am a little bit addicted to potholders (this pattern could easily serve as one :) ) as my pinterest board suggests... I have about 15 pairs of them here at home (none of which I dare to use ofcourse in the case they would get dirty).

  8. Hey Jules, your wash cloths are wonderful, love the red/pink combo. I'd be inclined to use either of those colours to edge it or just white, but I'm sure whatever you use will look great.......
Do you think you might put some of these in your shop?

  26. Hi, I have to say what I truly feel. I've worked in marketing for a my best friend, Susan, who had a shop for many many years called The Victorian Country Cottage. This woman could sell a nickel for a quarter. I learned so much from her about marketing, selling, etc. I can not tell you what an education she gave me all those years. A lot of people have ask in forums and such why there items arent' selling especially on ecommerce sites. In my research and the help of my BF in this new internet selling more people are in search of patterns and freebies than mostly anything else. Before the internet sales were done in storefronts like my BF...sales were easy if you could talk to people. With the internet flooding the field, the cost of shipping, the cost of materials is making it more diffucult. Those who got in under 2010 or have been published in a book, been featured in a magazine are doing very well. Sadly are society considers these people as top creators. People will flock to anyone who has been published made tv or the news, dragons den, or shark tank, QVC etc. This is not saying you can not make it by fair...so those of you with opinions don't get your tassles twisted. Should you do the research the only blogs getting tons of view are those who generally offer free patterns, or again have some kind of published statis. I do love your shop and believe people would buy your stars..packaging is everything as is a name of a shop, blog or product. All being said, you would do better selling the patterns you create.

  27. P.S. sell your patterns offer a few free ones here and there until your site gets larger. Submitt yourself to magazines online and in your area. Once you are published you will be surprised what people will do. I am 58 years old and the saying goes...in youth we learn, with age we understand. For those of you out there considering selling trying to get a blog going a name will make or break your goal. As far as me if your wondering I am not looking to be published etc...my blog is meerly a place for me to express myself it's like a journal to me.
