Crazy World.....

I woke up early this morning to a grey sky and rolling thunderstorms and rainy downpours.  I didn't need to be up for a few hours, so I thought it was a perfect time to do a bit of in bed hooky, such a luxury!
Then I put on the radio to hear what was happening out in the big wide world, and I hear of the terrible massacre of little children in America.  At a school, little children just going about their young lives, sent off in the morning as a normal everyday happening, and then a normal day turns haywire.
One can only imagine the pain and grief that the families and community are feeling at the moment, I feel so sad for them all, it is really too much to comprehend.
In this day and age of the internet and our global community, tragedies like this feel much closer to home than the geographic distance that separates us.
We are all in this life together after all.
Sending big hugs to all you lovely readers, especially in America, I think you'll all need an extra one today.

  1. I agree. I didn't hear about it until I can to work last night. I keep thinking what the children must have gone through, how frightened they must have been. It is terrible but I am sure this time of year makes it appear 1000's times more awful to comprehend. What drives someone to do something so barbarack. How will that community every recover. The surviving children's lives will always be marred by this terrible event.

On a crochet note, what are you making?

  2. Such a very sad, sad day here in the States...and I'm touched by your post. Thank you. I am no where near where the tragedy occurred, but am holding thoughts of the families close in my heart. I've only been following you for a short time and have been wanting to tell you that you've inspired me to get reacquainted with my crochet hook again...LOVING your stripey blanket quilt along (I've just finished the first 'chevron' row). Tonight as I sat and watched our news broadcasts about the terrible events of the day...I stitched along, it was soothing. In days to come, when I look at this blanket, I will remember this day, the children...the teachers...the mother...the families...and I will feel sad, however to forget them would even be sadder. But this blanket will also be a reminder that life is a blessing to be cherished every day.

  3. It's so senseless. There are just no words to carry the weight of it. So heartbreaking. I hope the families get a lot of support to get through this. I don't know how anyone would cope loosing a child this way.

  4. Christina is so right! It's extremely senseless! These innocent children lost their lives for NO reason, they and their families were looking forward towards the holidays I'm sure...and now the gathering is to send them off to eternal rest. I just don't understand! It was just a few days ago a man in Oregon USA went on a shooting spree in a mall and killed two and turned the gun on himself also critcally injured a 15 year old who's fighting for her life. Mental illness is real and so many of us just simply brush it off! Some of them reach out for help and we just turn our backs. It needs to be taken seriously!!! Thanks Jules for the condolences! Our country is very broken hearted right now and WE appreciate all the support, thoughts and prayers global wide! Blessings always dear friend(s)!!! ~Lika~ from North Carolina USA

My heart goes out to those poor families although how can one understand the suffering they must be experiencing at this moment. Horrendous...so shocking!

  7. Jules, Thank you so much for your post and hugs for all of us in America. It is indeed a tragedy and so senseless. We are all in this together and we realize it especially in a time like this and having our children in danger. I pray for all the families of the victims.
Prayers, prayers, prayers are all I can think to do.

  9. thank you for your prayers, we here in Florida are struck dumb by what has happened again. Why oh why are these right wing nut jobs in love with their guns? we are certainly a violent war loving country if you look at the evidence. How will those surviving children be able to go to school again? horror has touched their innocent lives

  10. I live in just the town over from this school and had to rush to get my daughter early, I was so scared!! It's incredible to know that this news has made it over to where you are and I am so sure that these families would be grateful for your thoughts. It's a moment where you hold your babies so much closer that is physically possible, for sure!!

  12. The shooting was terrible. I feel for the families but mostly for the children that witnessed the massacre but were not killed. How awful for them to have to live through that. It all seems worse when you learn that the children were only aged 6-7, and that they were shot multiple times. Absolutely heartbreaking.

  14. As the mother of a teen with Asperger's, I have been bombarded with news stories about how it caused this tragedy. My daughter was afraid to go to school for fear the other kids would think she was violent. In the end, her teachers allowed her to discuss Asperger's and answer questions...Thank you for keeping Newtown in your thoughts. I am involved with several groups on Ravelry that are collecting squares to stitch into blankets if you are interested! I have over a dozen already, and hope to send one for each life lost that day, including the killer's mother.
