mixed stripey blanket - the end - TADAH!!!!

OK here we go people, the stripey blanket all finished, wrapped up, complete!
Be warned quite a few photos in this post!

.....here it is on our bed.....

......I like it folded long ways too.......

........Stripe details....

.......it looks quite small folded on the bed, but here I am looking happy with myself, so you can see that it is bigger than I am!.....

I am very happy how this has finished up, pretty close to how I imagined it!

So a few facts for you all:

* the finished blanket weighs around 2kgs, so takes 20 100g balls of wool to make, no wonder it took a while!

*I used a variety of 100% 8ply wools in the blanket, brands include Colourworks, Cleckheaton Country 8ply, Bendigo Wool Mill, and some others that I can't remember.

These are the left over bits of the wools I used, I think all the colours are here, 18 in all I think!

*Sorry ladies, I made the pattern up as I went, so don't have a pattern to show you as such. I think part of this blanket's charm is the  random nature of the pattern, so I think just have a go at varying the stitches and colours and see how you go.

It is lovely and cosy and warm, I am sure it will get lots of use next winter!

So that is the end of the Stripey Blanket, it's been quite an epic crochet adventure, and I thank you all for the lovely encouragement I have received along the way, I am happy so many of you like this blanket!

The edge that I ended up doing was quite plain, as there is already plenty going on in the main blanket I think!
Pleased to report that my anti weaving in edging seemed to work!
I ended up crocheting around in sc, then 4 rows of dc along each side that had all the loose yarns to weave in. Then I folded over the dc rows to form a casing for the yarn ends and sewed this edge down. Hey presto, yarn ends all safe and sound hidden inside the edge!
Hope that makes sense.

Have a great day!

  7. It is a fantastic blanket - love the variety of stitches and colours. You must have so much more patience than I do - I've just made a blanket for a Christmas present and it ended up being quite a bit smaller than yours and I was just itching to finish it and start on something else / do something different. I just don't have the patience for large-scale projects it would seem and I knew that if I parked a half-finished blanket and started something else I would never go back to it!

  8. That is THE nicest blanket I have ever seen! I love the colours... I use the exact same ones often AND it is a bummer that THE green has been discontinued by colorworks. Maybe you and I are the only ones who use it but between the two of us I think that should be enough to keep it in the colour range! I've been watching it grow but didn't realise how big it was until I saw it on the bed. Thanks for sharing its progress!

  13. I love this blanket, its really inspired me to think more about texture in the clothing I make. Clever you working out how to edge in all the ends. I hate finishing so everything I make is seamless. Ideas on how to avoid weaving in are gratefully received! So what's the next project?

  14. Simply gorgeous. I love the variety of colours and stitches. What's next on the agenda dare I ask!

  15. Aren't you a clever chook....who would think to enclose all those pesky ends in that manner?!!

Jules I'm just looking at it on your bed and it really is quite a large blanket.....what a lot of crocheting went into it........

It's just gooooorrrrrjuuuuus...........beware of blanket snatchers, there is some serious blanket envy going on in Blogland over this, lol........

Nice to see a pic of you too. It's been freezing here today, the sort of day when you need a nice blanket to cosy up under.

  94. I love your blanket. Your are truly an artist to put all the colors and stitches together like that. I may try to make one on a smaller scale. I am in the US and I am a little jealous that it is spring there when we are just going into the yucky winter season. Guess you can tell I'm a summer person. Love your blog also...found it on Pinterest, I'll be following along to see what cool things you come up with next.

  95. Absolutely gorgeous! I found you through Pinterest and you have not a little space there but a BIG one. Suck it all in. You have done a fantastic job. Was it hard to vary the stitches? I mean did you have to undo a lot because you ended up with a wrong amount stitches or did it kinda flow pretty well? Just curious. Thinking about giving this a go but maybe pillow sized...
