Skinny stripes and a winner!

Hello everyone!

I have a bit of a colour overload here, but it has been very dreary and cold here today, so I was in need of a little brightening. :)
This is the thing I am working on at the moment, I call it the Skinny Stripe Blanket, just rows of sc in a lovely random patterning of colours.  So simple, but I love the effect.
I am trying to do 10-20 rows a day, but I am falling behind a bit this week. :(  Must keep plugging away, the rows are very soothing, just sc over and over again! ( they are soothing until they are boring, then I stop and do something else!)

Anyway, what else has been happening around here...hmmm, well I received a new yarn delivery for the shop today, something lovely and chunky and warm and wintery and interesting.  It was too dull to photograph it, but I can't wait to get it in the shop and show you all.  I've never made anything in chunky or super chunky yarn, I'll have to go and immerse myself in Ravelry for a while and find some new projects!  Hopefully I will be able to show you tomorrow!

Oh, and I have a winner for the April giveaway! Yay!
Max chose a number between 1 and 189, and I counted down to that comment, and guess what?
Kate Eastwood the 5 balls of cotton are all yours!
Thank you to everyone who took the time to enter, I wish I could send a prize to you all!

(......and yes, I do have to deal with all these ends!  I know I should have crocheted over them as I went, but I started doing that and I didn't like how one end of the stripe was thicker than the other! So I will weave them in at the end, surely it won't take that long..... :)  )

Well, that's about all for now, not much too report really, hopefully I'll have more interesting posts for you all soon, I think I've been lacking a bit of posting inspiration recently, so I apologise for the slightly boring sameness to my posting, I guess that can happen when life follows a gentle rhythm, and patterns and routines repeat themselves over the months.  I think it is called contentment, or something similar, just a happy life really. :)

How is life treating you at the moment?

Have a great day!

  1. your blanket looks great, its funny how something so simple can be so effective. I was thinking of making one in DC for my next project. I've almost finished my granny stripe and love having something to snuggle under in this chilly April. Amanda x

  4. Or you may leave the ends as they are, as fridges! yey! no weaving in the ends! Congratulations to the winner!

  5. You could maybe plait the ends or make some kind of bound edge with them - seeing as how you have a regular one end per row...

  6. Your blanket is beautiful - I really like your colour choices. I rather like sewing in the yarn tails.

  9. What a lovely blanket. So odd to hear you planning for winter when we are hoping for spring however it is currently raining torrentially out of a dark grey sky so I've no idea what our weather thinks it is doing.

I've made a couple of things with super chunky wool and it is so satisfying to whip through a project. Can I suggest something using basketweave crochet as I really enjoyed that.

  10. Love that crochet. Maybe you can do that border thing you did before to encase the ends - thought that was a great idea. Jo x

  12. Love the single row of each colour idea. I might try it as a scarf and knot several row ends together as a tassel fringe.

  15. The blanket is beautiful Jules! Super gorgeous and I love the suggestion to keep the ends as a fringe somehow....I'll definitely keep that in mind for my future projects :-) Congrats to Kate. As for blogging, there is something comforting about the regular "routine" type of Post.....enjoy the rest of your week. Mel :-)

  17. Oh wow Jules, I love the skinny stripes, so colourful. I always start a project with the intention of sewing in yarn ends as I go, that never happens of course! Have a good week.

  18. A very cheery striped blanket! Ends... the bane of a crocheter's life! I tend to weave them in a little at a time. If I'm not in the mood to crochet, I'll do some weaving. It's been so pretty here lately, I've been outside every possible minute, not much time for crochet at the moment.Happy crocheting!

  19. Congrats to the winner! Oh how I love the blanket, I can see how it must've cheered you up! The ends gave me a bit of a scare, I tend to weave them all in at the end too.. Whenever you've got another dreary and cold day, get a nice cup of tea and snuggle up on the couch (and half under the blanket) and those ends will be no more! :)

  23. Oh, skinny stripes are definitely the way to go! I made some stripy mitts recently and the amount of ends was............endless!........but that was because the crocheted area was so small in comparison. A blanketsized amount of crochet, in between, would be much better. Skinny stripes will be my next blanket I think :)

  28. Hi there, just catching up. Congratulations to Kate, I am sure that she will make something beautiful with this yarn as she does produce such lovely things. Your blanket is looking lovely, hope that you get on well with the ends, they are a lot of work aren't they, but worth it in the end. Hope that you are having a good weekend. xx
