Hi there.
So I thought today I'd show you some more tapestry crochet that I hooked up last week. I can't get enough of this technique, I just love working with the two colours.
This is my "Nine of Hearts" pattern, fairly obvious! This is a nice big face washer, a bit rectangular, but that's ok.
I am going to make a little series of heart washers using the Cascade Ultra Pima that I bought on holiday, the colours are so nice, I think they will look great.
I have to rope my son into helping me wind the hanks into balls, he is not that keen, I think a bit of bribery might sweeten the deal!
I'm also hooking away at the 'Wheels within wheels' blanket behind the scenes. I think a trip to Bendigo Knitting Mills is called for, I have run out of grey background colour and can't tell which shade it is from the website (the label is long gone!).
Next time I think I will choose a colour that I stock in my shop, it should make getting more a bit easier.

DeleteI love your hearts washer. Great way to get little peeps to keep clean. I was lucky to get to use my friend's swift this week - so easy to make balls from skeins. They are expensive to buy so I'm very grateful I know somebody with one.

DeleteI love the way tapestry looks too - but always have trouble with the technique. it would be great to see how you do this (and what it looks like on the back). Is it just a mess of criss crossed colours, like mine?
ReplyDeleteHi Megan, no the back should look the same as the front, you don't carry the unused colour across the back, you crochet over it as you go along the row, so it should end up under the row of stitches, hidden away and neat! Hi Rachell, I had a look at your Union Jack cushion ( lovely btw!) and no, this technique is different, you don't do 'blocks' of colour , rather the two colours are swapped along each row , if you know what I mean, harder to explain than to do! And I haven't shown the back of my work because with this technique the work is the same on the back, it is completely reversible, because you are crocheting over the thread not in use it is very neat and tidy! DeleteOh yes! I love these hearts. I did learn the tapestry diamond pattern in the end, though I didn't much like the yarn I used, so I didn't really "make" anything with it. I think that Cascade might be a good idea.

I can remember holding the wool for my mum as she wound it into balls. As we grew older she also outsourced the winding. One kid would hold and another would wind, giving mum more knitting time.

I really want to try that.crochet style. I'm crocheting a ripple blanket at the moment with Cascade 220. When I need to wind I either drape the hank around the tops of 2 kitchen chairs or I sit cross legged and put the hank around my knees.
ReplyDeletewhen I decided last summer to learn how to spin my own yarn I knew I was going to have to invest in a swift and a ball winder. I found a great duo on Amazon made my Stanwood. The swift was about $66.00 and the ball winder was I think $61.00 http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0078T6KQY/ref=oh_details_o06_s01_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 . I know that's no small sum but they just make things so much easier, plus I purchased them one at a time. I would highly recommend this particular brand... extremely well made with the base made out of heavy metal. The swift is also very well made and sturdy... I wouldn't trade either one for a million bucks... ok maybe a million but not a penny less, :D
