CAL Mixed stitch stripy blanket #2 - tadah

So here we are with the end product of the CAL, I know that a lot of you have finished your blankets ages ago and this blanket was a long time in the making, but I am so happy I finally finished this one!

This was a BIG blanket to undertake, and if I am perfectly honest I probably bit off more than I could chew with the CAL, so I apologise for the disorganised nature of the CAL, but at least we made it too the end!

Anyway, want to see how mine turned out?
Ready for a colour burst to brighten your day?
Here are a few photos to show you the final blanket in all it's glory!...........

.........spread out on our bed.........

....one reason this is such a big blanket is so it would hang over the sides of the bed and drape nicely.
It does do this!  Yay!

I love the look of this blanket all fold up, with all the colours working together, so lovely!!
I think the colours look better when it is folded like this than when it is all spread out, well maybe not better as such, but just as good anyway !

This is a heavy blanket as you can imagine, and used up lots of wool.
I used mainly Heirloom wool, a mix of Colorworks, Merino Magic and Baby wool, all in 8ply.
(I sell this in my shop if anyone is wondering where they can get the same colours :)  )

It is great to get something off my to do list and put it in my finished projects list, it doesn't happen often!

Well that's it for the CAL, I'm officially signing off on my first ever crochet along, all the instructions are on their own page so they are easy to find if anyone ever wants to make one of these for themselves.  Thanks for joining in and I hope you had fun!

xxxxxxxxxxx

So, time to get stuck into something else, I have some Christmas crochet lined up next, can't wait to get started on it!

Bye!

  5. Thank you so much for this. I've been following the CAL, every step of the way, from the very beginning. I didn't want to rush ahead so I've waited patiently for each instalment. It has been a thrill every time a new section has be added. I'm off to complete my border now. I shall miss working on this blanket but I'm glad it's now completed - just in time for the winter.
You have put such a lot of effort into this and I'm very appreciative of your hard work. Well done.

Thank you so much for doing the CAL - I've had your blog open in a tab now for a month or so having just started my own! it's only a lap blanket though so its whizzing up pretty fast and is so satisfying! I'm learning soooo much! I did try to buy the book you used but couldn't get it online and its not in any libraries here either!

  36. I am absolutely in live with your blanket! I wish I had been crocheting when you started this CAL, but, I wasn't yet. I am chronically I'll and recently discovered the wonderful world of crochet online! I don't feel trapped in this bed when I am browsing blogs and crocheting pretty and colorful items that I am learning from free tutorials and some purchased patterns (flowers!). I am so grateful that there are people like you that share their knowledge and inspired crochet work with everybody in the world that can get online! What a precious, small world it has become! :-D your blanket is amazing and stunning! A lot of the stitches are totally unknown to me, as my experience in crochet is a few simple afghans using sc lines, or a ripple stitch. I did find a library book in 1983 that taught me the popcorn stitch and branched out to make my first child a baby blanket using that stitch. But, that's it. I would love to "follow" your CAL on an individual level, to learn all those new stitches, also just plain gorgeous and happy! I know its now over, your magnificent blanket with all those amazing colors is finished, but, is there a way, using your posts, that I could start from the beginning and make my own? Do you have a way I could figure out where to start and follow along, step by step, in the proper order of the now finished CAL? I really, really want to try making something smaller, as an afghan would be too hard for me to wrangle. Way too weak and tons of pain. I was thinking a shawl. Im in jammies all the time, and a robe is just to big and bulky to wear in bed. So I have been making shawls to perk up my spirits. It's nice to wear something so pretty, bright, and snuggly! My shawls are like mini afghans to me. Please forgive the rambling! Speech and writing are hard with this illness's neurological symptoms. I am truly dazed and confused! LOL! I have a doctors note to excuse me too! LOL! Well, if there is a start to finish compilation here, where might I find it? Or, if following the posts is what I need to do, where is the beginning? I hope you have time in your busy life to reply. I so want to do this! So, so pretty! Thank you for your time and effort you put into posting all your work as you went! You are a color genius, and an inspiration. :-D

    1. Hi Maschelle, Thanks for the lovely comment! :) All the instructions for this blanket, right from the beginning, are on the 'mixed stitch stripy blanket crochet along' page, the link is at the top of my blog. I hope you get to make your own version of this, I think it would look great as a shawl! Wishing you well with your illness, I am glad you have found some escape in the bloggy world of crochet, I love sharing the creative love on this blog! Thank you for visiting and I hope you pop by again! :) J xx

  37. Your finished blanket is so beautiful! It is just lovely and quite an accomplishment - it is one very large blanket! I am sure you will enjoy and love it for years to come. I've been following along (but not crocheting) as you've posted your progress. I keep meaning to jump in... :) Is there a way to find all your posts about this CAL in order? I would love to do one of my own - probably considerably smaller - but would surely benefit from the stitch tutorials you shared along the way. Thanks! Can't wait to see your next crochet projects!

  45. Hello! I love your blanket and am getting ready to begin - I realize you just finished, so I get to see the finished perfection before I begin! Do you have a complete list of the colors? I've gone through the whole blog and copied down all the colors I can find, but want to make sure I don't miss anything. I'm in the states so will be looking for options easily obtained here.
    thank you very much!

  46. This blanket is AWESOME!! I soon hope to start one ♥♥ Can less starting chains be used for a smaller project...say a lap? Should I keep to even or uneven # os stitches? Does it matter?
