This is it laid out flat, it is getting big! I think I am about 2/3 rds finished, so I hope it won't take too much more time.....

........lots of colour.......

This is the bit I have done this week, the green and blue bobbles and the pink and white granny bits and red and greens stripes......

............and then there will be all of these to deal with!!!

  12. I LOVE your blanket!! I think leave those ends and add some more and have tassles, they would work in so very well (and then no ends to deal with as an added bonus)

  18. I love it. Nice colors and all the different kind of stitches. Why don't you put away the ends while you crochet? I always do. Lay the loose end horizontally in the direction you are going to crochet, crochet a few stitches including the loose end and then you can cut it off.
    (hope this makes sense :-))

  19. Hey Jules, that blanket is a work of art, it's looking absolutely wonderful.

Silver Threads of Happiness has the right idea, turn the ends into tassels or fringing..........

There's a lot of blanket love or is it blanket envy going on, hehehe........

I am no good at making things up, I need it to be written down was wondering how you swap from the granny stitches to the other stitches with the stitch count etc. I know what I mean but not sure you will. Truly gorgeous. Dev x aka fairyglade.blogspot.com. Hate to post anon but can't seem to leave comments on some blogs.

  52. This is so inspiring!!! I LOVE it! But what to do with all those ends??? Just cut them all off even and leave them. In fact, that's what I thought you were doing and thought it was cute, but then you asked about them. OR you could tie three of them together evenly with an overhand knot, then trim the off. Just an idea. Much easier than trying to hide them all.

    1. I just made this up as I went along, it's just a random pattern of different stitch types and different colours, so sorry, I don't have a pattern. :)

  55. Hi Jules,

I love your blanket so much that I decided to make one for myself. As I am a bit of a beginner, my blanket is a sort of sampler, using different stitches from a selection of books. I can see why many blankets are made up of smaller granny squares, as I am having a terrible time keeping the correct number of stitches in each row. I think I am on the right track with the turning chains etc, and then when I check back I have lost quite a few stitches. I am loathe to unpick any rows, but am not sure if the problem can be rectified. Are there any tricks of the trade.

    With thanks, Merridy

    1. Hi Merridy, It is a bit tricky keeping the same number of stitches in each row. I just made sure I counted every now and again to stay on track, and if I was making clusters or skipping stitches I made sure that overall there was the same number of stitches, ie if you are doing 3sc in one st, then skip next 2 stitches and 3sc in next and so on, overall it's the same number of stitches. This is probably confusing! sorry I am not much help, all I can suggest is careful counting! Good luck!

  56. Is there a pattern for this blanket and the star stitch striped (rainy day) blanket? I would love to make these two blankets and I LOVE the colors you chose for both. I'm not skilled enough to make this by sight or just wing it, though. Also, which brand of yarn and which colors did you use for them? They are just gorgeous! Ever think of making a book?

  57. Is there a pattern for this blanket (and the star stitch striped one in your rainy day blog post)? I would love to make these two, but I'm not skilled enough yet to make it from sight. I love the colors you chose for each of them as well. What color yarn from which brand did you use? You have such an artful eye! You should publish a book!

    ReplyDelete
  58. I started your blanket because I just LOVE it. I am terrible at making up patterns by myself, so I thought that because you said you were publishing the directions, I could make it. I got up to update #2 and couldn't find any more directions. Now, I find that you have decided not to publish any more directions. So my blanket it now a foot long. :( I am sooooo disappointed.

    ReplyDelete
    Replies
    1. Hi Karen, I don't know where you saw that I am not publishing any more directions, I am certainly planning to finish the crochet along and post the patterns as I go. However, real life commitments have meant that my crochet time has been a bit light on at the moment, so my blanket is not growing as quickly as I would like, so the updates are slower too! Fear not, they are coming though! They will be put on the separate crochet along page as well as posted normally on the blog. The blanket in this post was the first mixed stripe blanket that i made last year and I didn't record a pattern for it, but the new one I am making now definitely will have instructions on how to make it. Hope this clears up any confusion, happy crocheting, Julie :)

  59. Today I discovered your blog, and I liked it, I'm from Portugal, so excuse my English, but I loved his blanket, and loved doing. I request authorization to take some of your ideas manta.Já I signed up to your blog to see what's new. Thank you very fondly. I forgot to tell you that my name is Flores Umbelina, and live in Portugal.

  60. Are there sufficient ends left to use as a fringe? Rather than having to darn them all in.

BTW - I find it easier to darn ends in as they appear on this type of project. Or to crochet them in with the stitches of the next stripe, if possible.
