Wintery granny goodness.....

Hello.
What's been happening in your neck of the woods?
Life here has been good and busy this week, I feel like I am actually achieving a few things, after a conscious effort to stop daydreaming so much and just start doing!  Also I have broken my Diet Coke habit that would see me stopping several times a day for a nice icy 'drink and think'.  Now I am doing my thinking while still getting on with stuff.  I've gone cold turkey, and am not missing it as much as I thought I would. Small steps, but slowly the hours are not just whiling away, they are being used for good stuff.

Thank you so much for all the lovely comments on my last post, you are all so encouraging and ace, one of the great reasons why I love sharing my bits and pieces here.   It looks like a crochet a long might be a bit of fun, so I will get on with working out how to set it all up, I am sure it will be a pretty casual, hap hazard affair, but I will do my best.  I'm quite excited to be honest!

So anyway, just because I don't have enough projects on the go (not really the truth), I've started a new blanket!!!
It has been soooo cold here lately, winter has totally arrived, and I decided it was time to do something in some rich wintery jewel shades and some darker colours too, not my usual palette at all.
I have a big bag full of wool in kind of muted and, dare I say, dull shades, just perfect for what I have in mind.

I bought a few big balls of some lovely wool/alpaca blend a few years ago, the colours are really nice, but not clear and bright like the colours I have been using, so they have been sitting unloved on my shelf just waiting for me to find the perfect project for them.
So it is time to combine all my Wintery colours into a fabulous granny patchwork type of blanket.
I am really enjoying these little squares, they are quick and easy to hook up.

After I took these photos, I went out with my mum to visit my grandpa who lives about an hour away, and I managed to hook up another 10 squares on the trip there and back!
We also visited a wool shop on the way home and I couldn't resist buying a couple more colours to add to the mix, I think they are really going to add some nice highlights.

The pattern for these squares is from Michelle at The Royal Sisters, I am sure you would all know her brilliant blog and wonderful patterns.
I am really happy with how this is coming along, it is a lot of fun to play around with the colour combinations and lay out for the blanket.
I am also having fun coming up with a few nice stitch combinations for some interesting effects for the mixed stripe blanket too!  Just got to put them all together and see if it works!
 Fingers crossed.

Ok, that's all for now, I'm going to watch a bit of Wimbledon and hook up a few more squares!
Have a great day!

  4. Love these little squares, I keep meaning to make a cushion cover with some.....another thing on the list! Reading your previous post, I would love to do a CAL, sounds like a great idea.

Love that teal/petrol colour btw, it's quite unusual, your blanket will look stunning when it's all put together

  8. love the crochet squares and the colours - the sort I would choose. Looking forward to your CAL - maybe I should have a spurt at my ripple to try and get it finished - why do I feel guilty at starting another project before I finish the last! I haven't really joined any .... a longs yet as I seem to have missed the start of most of them so can't wait.

  10. Love those little square colours, can't wait to see what you do with them. I made these recently and really enjoyed how quickly they hooked up. I made mine into a pretty bag.

  11. I'm loving looking at your squares, and hearing about how wintry it is, while I'm having 100 degrees weather. Needing a wooly blanket to snuggle under sounds heavenly! I may need to start one, just to prove that someday it really will cool off. Anyway, it's too hot to work on anything bigger than a granny square. I'll keep checking back here for the CAL.

  12. I love your wintry granny and those muted colors are so warm and inviting! Since we've been hit by a terrible storm and have no power I've been working on some crocheted jewelry frames. It will be nice to have the air and water working again but I'm sure enjoying the excuse to hook!

  13. Looks like you are using some tweeds amongst your yarn choices. Should give the afghan a nice texture.
